ABC International Montessori is an independent Montessori school located in West Bloomington, a suburb of Minneapolis, Minnesota. ABC Montessori School (Primary) was established in 1973. International Montessori Academy Inc. (Elementary) was established in 1981.

Our school has its own Montessori designed school building. The school accommodates 100 primary and elementary children. We have a diverse cultural environment with staff and students from 17 different nationalities. Our staff are AMI Montessori-trained. Each classroom has a Montessori -trained director or directress and a teacher assistant.

SCHOOL HOURS

Preschool: (2- 1/2 to 5 -1/2) 9:00 A.M. - 12:00 NOON or 3:00 P.M.
Elementary: (6 to 14 years ) 9:00 A.M. - 3 :00 P.M.

Before and After-School Childcare:
    • 7:30 A.M. - 8:30 A.M.
    • Noon to 5:30 P.M., OR
    • 3:00 -5:30 P.M.
School closing time is 5:30 P.M.
If you pick up your child after 5:30 P.M., there is a LATE FEE.


CURRICULUM ENHANCEMENT

The following activities are included in the curriculum:

  • School cultural performances

Children can also work in the school greenhouse, prepare for spring planting, and learn about gardening. A cockatiel and Danish dwarf rabbit are also located in our environment.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Reports and Conferences: Twice a year parents have the opportunity to meet with their child's teacher to discuss their child's progress. However, parents or teachers may request a conference at any time.

Field Trips: During the year, field trips are scheduled to local museums, the Children's Theater, zoos, and other local agencies at an additional charge.

Testing: Kindergarten through grade 7 students are administered the Standardized Achievement Test. The results are used for diagnostic purposes.

Food: School lunch is available Monday-Thursday. Friday is Pizza Day. You may sign up for Friday pizza only, if you choose, or children may bring their own lunch. We recommend you send a small, healthy afternoon snack if you feel your child will need one.

Napping: A nap room is available for a limited number of children.

Summer School (all ages): Summer school is an extension of the regular school year and is offered the first two weeks of June with sufficient enrollment. A variety of classes and sports camps are offered.


PARENT ASSOCIATION

The Parent Association consists of volunteers and is a separate entity from the school. The purpose of the Parent Association is to enhance the school experience for the student. This is done by involving families in social, volunteer and educational activities which help to create and foster a friendly, open atmosphere. Regular meetings are held and parents are encouraged to attend.

There is an annual student fee to cover costs of events planned by the Parent Association.
